There are enough things to worry about nowadays, burning candles shouldn’t be one of them!

THE WAX

When you light a candle, what sorts of things do you think about? Probably that it smells great, that it’s nice to look at, that it burns safely. But how often do you think about the wax? I’m guessing not a lot - I know I didn’t, until I started making candles myself. I want to make sure all candles from Another Lonely Day Handcraft + Co. are made from natural raw materials you can trust.

I use a natural, vegan blend of virgin coconut and soy waxes that is toxin-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, gluten-free, and comes from renewable sources. This particular wax blend is also excellent at circulating the candle scent through the air (what we in the biz call “scent throw”).

What does this mean for you?

It means you can feel good about bringing Another Lonely Day's handcrafted products into your home and you can trust that you’re not breathing in a ton of toxins and chemicals.

 

THE WICKS

They are 100% natural and unprocessed, non-toxic and clean burning. They crackle ever so slightly while burning - but there is more to these wicks than just ambience!

Our wooden wicks are USA-made of sweet midWest softwood and sourced from FSC certified wood - wait, what does that mean exactly?

So glad you asked! FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. The @FSCinternational mission is to promote environmentally sound, socially beneficial, and economically prosperous management of the world's forests.

FSC has developed principles that apply to FSC-certified forests around the world, including recognizing and respecting indigenous peoples’ rights, conserving biological diversity, and maintaining the ecological functions and integrity of the forest.

 

THE FRAGRANCES

Did you know that 75 to 80 percent of all candles sold in the U.S. today are scented? But not all scented candles are created equally. 

It’s vital that candle makers and purveyors of other scented products only source fragrance oils from reputable perfumers. Otherwise, one can run the risk of exposure to unwanted synthetic chemicals and contaminants.

By contrast, not only are the fragrance oils used in all of Another Lonely Day’s handcrafted products created by using natural oils, nature-identical compounds, and pure essential oils, but they are ethically sourced from around the globe. Oh, and did I mention that they smell incredible…?

They are also cruelty-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and compliant with IFRA standards (a globally recognized system for the safe use of fragrance materials).

Most premium fragrances are a unique composition of many ingredients, and the layering of scents creates a complex scent profile that evolves over time.

PROCESS

Another Lonely Day is a relatively small operation, run by me. My top priority is producing high-quality, small-batch candles and hand-mixed perfumes and home fragrances that you can feel good about bringing into your home. I mix and pour all of my products by hand in my home workshop.

In my own life, I make it a priority to spend money with companies that share my values - from prioritizing the environment, to LGBTQ rights, to women’s health and reproductive rights, to black lives (newsflash: they matter) - why should my business be any different? So I began to look more closely at where I was sourcing supplies from. I do my hardest to work with suppliers with similar values and that prioritize natural, eco-friendly, ethically-sourced, and renewable raw materials whenever possible.
